Our Science Curriculum

At Shotton Primary School, we aim to deliver a high-quality science education to provide the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. We believe scientific knowledge and skills to be key to the children and wider world future prosperity, and that all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods and processes of science.

Science is taught discreetly throughout the year and is delivered through coherently planned lessons that follow a logical progression in order to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding. 

Through the teaching of our science curriculum children will be able to independently explain a range of natural phenomenon, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes whilst developing a sense of excitement and curiosity about science that children can take with them throughout life.

At Shotton Primary School we see our science curriculum as a platform upon which children can learn and develop the transferable employability skills of listening, speaking, problem solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership and teamwork, alongside an awareness of specific careers within the field of sciences (biology, chemistry and physics).
