Our PE Curriculum
At Shotton Primary School, it is our intent to deliver a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It is successfully adapted for all pupils to ensure they are challenged in a way that allows them to become physically confident and supports their health and fitness.
Physical education is taught discretely. Lessons are clearly and logically planned to allow children to reflect and develop their knowledge, confidence and competence within sport and physical activities which build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. Time is given within the PE curriculum to prepare children for sporting competitions and festivals.
We have a Durham Local Authority swimming pool on our school site and all children in Years 3 and 4 learn to swim.
The purpose of our physical education curriculum is to provide our pupils with a broad range of opportunities which develop children's physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle.
It is our belief that the impact of our high expectations equips children with the knowledge and skills needed to:
Learning today for a successful tomorrow...
At Shotton Primary School we see our PE curriculum as a platform upon which children can learn and develop the transferable employability skills of listening, speaking, problem solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership and teamwork, alongside an awareness of specific careers within the field of sport and related disciplines such as physiotherapy and sports sciences.
