Shotton Primary
and Nursery School
At Shotton Primary, we are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for our youngest learners through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our vision is to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to thrive and develop to their full potential.
We aim to foster a love of learning by offering a balanced curriculum that promotes creativity, independence, and critical thinking. By focusing on both academic and emotional development, we encourage children to become confident, curious, and resilient individuals. Through a balance of structured activities and child-initiated play, we create engaging and hands-on experiences that support each child’s unique needs, ensuring they are ready for the next steps in their educational journey.
Our goal is to nurture well-rounded individuals who are enthusiastic learners, independent thinkers and are able to develop positive relationships with others. With strong partnerships between staff and families, we ensure that each child’s journey in the EYFS is filled with joy, discovery, and achievement.
Our Intention
At Shotton Primary, our intent for Early Years education is to provide a nurturing, stimulating, and inclusive environment which supports the holistic development of each child. We aim to foster curiosity, independence, and creativity through a curriculum that is both play-based and structured. Our EYFS curriculum is designed to be broad and balanced and support children’s development across all areas of learning, ensuring they build the foundational skills necessary for future success. We are committed to offering a safe and caring setting that promotes emotional well-being and provides equal opportunities for all children to flourish.
In the Early Years at Shotton Primary, we implement a child-centred curriculum that is engaging, varied, based on real-life experiences and follows the statutory requirements of the EYFS Framework. Our teaching is tailored to the individual needs and interests of each child, using a combination of teacher-led and child-initiated activities. We place a strong emphasis on developing key skills in Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. Through a balance of indoor and outdoor learning opportunities, children’s progress is tracked and supported at every stage to ensure each child’s progress is monitored closely, and activities are adapted accordingly. We also encourage strong partnerships with parents and carers, ensuring they are fully involved in their child’s learning journey.
The impact of our EYFS provision at Shotton Primary is evident in the well-rounded and confident children who leave our Early Years setting ready for the next stage of their education. Our children develop strong foundations in key skills, including language, literacy, mathematics, and social skills, which support their future academic success. The skills developed in EYFS equip them with the necessary foundations for future learning, including communication, social skills, resilience, and problem-solving. Through our engaging and enriching curriculum, we ensure that all children leave the Early Years setting with a positive attitude towards learning and the confidence to continue their educational journey. We regularly assess the impact of our EYFS provision to ensure continuous improvement and the best possible outcomes for our children.
