We are excited to announce an upcoming event at our school that promises to be a vibrant and enjoyable experience for our children. On the afternoon of Tuesday 17th June 2025 (or all day on Wednesday 18th June for nursery children), we will be organising a Colour Run, where the children will have the opportunity to participate in a thrilling run whilst being showered with neon powder paint.
This event serves a dual purpose: not only will our students have a fantastic time, but it will also be a valuable opportunity to support a worthy cause. All sponsorship donations raised from the Colour Run will be donated to our school fund to raise money to enhance our outdoor areas.
Sponsorship forms have been sent home with children. For more information on how this money will be spent, please see out fundraising page: https://www.shottonprimary.durham.sch.uk/fundraising-for-outdoor-areas/
Easter raffle tickets are now available to purchase on ParentPay, they are 20p per ticket.
Raffle to be drawn in school on Friday 11th April 2025
There is something for every pocket on the book fair to assist with the rise in the cost of living. Approximately 25% of titles are under £5.
We are excited to welcome the Scholastic Book Fair into our school next week. Children will be able to browse the book fair across the day on Friday 21st March and parents / carers will be able to join children at the book fair from Monday 24th March until Wednesday 26th March between 3:30pm and 4:00pm in the Key Stage 2 hall (enter through Year 5 / 6 doors)
For this event we will not be accepting cash, children must not bring cash into school for books. Parents / carers can make payment using a debit /credit card via QR code at the fair or by the following link https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/pay/1458774
Children will be given the opportunity to bring a Wish List home following their browsing slot and payment can also be made via the QR code at the bottom of the wish list. The Wish List must be returned to school once payment has been made.
If payment is made outside of the school fair times it is the responsibility of the parent / carer to inform school of the title of the book/books their child has chosen via the school office. Payment will be crossed referenced and books will be given to the child or ordered if out of stock.
During the week of the book fair £5 vouchers to spend at the fair will be given to 5 chosen children who have shown exceptional effort during reading both in school and at home.
The more money that is spent at the fair the more free books school will receive!
Thank you for continued support with such events it really makes a difference to our children in school.
Kind regards

We are excited to announce that our school will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 6th March 2025. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate the joy of reading, creativity, and imagination. This year, we will be focusing on a special story that we know your child will enjoy: "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt.
In this funny and heart-warming story, the crayons in a young boy's box write letters to express their feelings about their roles in his artwork. Each crayon has its own personality and perspective, making the book not only entertaining but also a fantastic way to discuss emotions, creativity, and the importance of understanding different perspectives.
Nursery (Miss Donoghue) - WHITE
Reception (Mrs Venner & Miss Crane) - PINK
Year 1 (Mrs Ryan) - YELLOW
Year 2 (Miss Hunt) - GREEN
Year 3 (Miss Forster) - PURPLE
Year 3/4 (Miss Riley) - ORANGE
Year 4 (Mrs Robinson) - RED
Year 5 (Mr Cowie & Mr Cartwright) - BLUE
Year 6 (Mr Martin) - BLACK
Children can simply wear a singular item of clothing in their colour or come to school head to toe in their colour. You can be as creative as you like but please note there is no expectation for parents to spend money on creating an outfit for this event.
This celebration is not only about promoting the love of reading but also about encouraging our students to express themselves creatively, just like the crayons in the story. We hope that your child enjoys this special day and gets inspired to keep reading and creating!
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a love of books and learning.
We are thrilled to announce that not only we will be holding a Santa Fun Run again this year on Friday 6th December 2024, but it will be much more exciting with Christmas themed activities and a snow machine (weather dependent)!!! Children, in Reception to Year 6, taking part in the Fun Run can come to school that day in their PE kit or 'suitable for running' Christmas fancy dress. There will also be a range of festive pieces (novelty headwear, glasses etc.) that will be available on the day. Appropriate footwear for running is compulsory. They will also need to bring a spare pair of shoes to school that day to change into after the run. Your child will receive a lovely Santa Fun Run medal for taking part. If you would like your child to take part you will need to please pay a minimum donation of £3.50 on ParentPay, to cover the cost of the medal. Any additional donations received will go towards Christmas parties for the children, Santa’s Grotto and to subsidise the Pantomime trip. Normal debt policy will apply. The maximum number of participants for this event is 200 children, places will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.
For the first time we will be having a whole school elf day when children and staff can come to school dressed as elves. This can be as inventive or as minimal as you wish e.g. just dress in green and make some cardboard elf ears. Please do not feel that you have to buy an elf costume. The day is more about us having fun together and a dedicated day of Christmas activities. Weather permitting we hope that all children will be able to have hot chocolate and marshmallows in our wooded area, therefore children must come to school with a warm coat and appropriate footwear. We will be doing lots of lovely Christmas activities, such as making Christmas cards, singing songs around the piano and a visit to Santa’s Grotto.
Children who have purchased a ticket to see Beauty and the Beast at the Gala Theatre in Durham, should attend school at their normal time in their school uniform. The bus will collect children at 9:00am and they will be returning to school around 1pm for a late lunch. Children may wish to bring a small snack or small packet of sweets and a drink with them for the theatre, but we ask that in line with the school policy they should not contain nuts. No glass bottles either. Tickets must be fully paid by Monday 25th November
On Wednesday 23rd October we will be having a whole school Halloween play and stay event, when we will welcome parents and carers to join us for a day of fun and learning activities alongside your child, and then an after school Disco with magic show and face painting.
Please put the date in your diaries as we would love as many of you to join us as possible.
