SEN Provision
At Shotton Primary School, we are committed to providing a fully inclusive environment where all students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), are supported to thrive.
At any one time we have a wide range of children with very diverse needs. As a school we pride ourselves on ensuring that we do all that we possibly can, within the constraints of a mainstream setting, to meet the needs of all children with specific special educational needs and disabilities.
Our SEND provision includes a range of tailored interventions and strategies designed to meet the individual needs of each student. This may include differentiation in the main classroom, adult support to scaffold learning or a discrete intervention focusing on social skills or a specific strand of the curriculum. This should not be seen as an exhaustive list.
We offer two specialised SEND classrooms that serve as provisions for students who require more targeted support. These classrooms follow a bespoke curriculum that is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, ensuring that learning is accessible, engaging, and appropriately challenging.
Rainbow Room - In this provision, we place a strong emphasis on communication, providing students with a range of strategies and tools to develop their verbal, non-verbal, and social communication skills. This focus on communication underpins our approach to helping students build confidence and independence. The Rainbow Room provides a supportive space where students with specific communication needs, can thrive through tailored approaches that promote communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation. The environment is designed to be sensory-friendly, with carefully considered elements that help students manage sensory needs, such as reduced distractions, calming spaces, and sensory tools to aid focus and self-regulation.
Bloom Room & Hive - This SEND provision focuses on both academic and personal development, with students benefiting from small class sizes, specialised teaching, and a range of interventions designed to support their progress. There is a strong focus on fostering a nurturing environment that supports the Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs of pupils who may display challenging behaviours and find aspects of the school environment difficult to navigate.
We work closely with external professionals, including speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and occupational therapists, to ensure a holistic approach to student development. Regular assessments and reviews are conducted to ensure that each student receives the right level of provision, enabling them to reach their full potential.
