We are excited to announce that our school will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 6^th March 2025. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate the joy of reading, creativity, and imagination. This year, we will be focusing on a special story that we know your child will enjoy: "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt.

 

In this funny and heart-warming story, the crayons in a young boy's box write letters to express their feelings about their roles in his artwork. Each crayon has its own personality and perspective, making the book not only entertaining but also a fantastic way to discuss emotions, creativity, and the importance of understanding different perspectives.

 

• Dress Up: On World Book Day, children are invited to come to school dressed as a crayon colour from the book. Colours have been allocated to each class and are as follows:

 

Nursery (Miss Donoghue) - WHITE

Reception (Mrs Venner & Miss Crane) - PINK

Year 1 (Mrs Ryan) - YELLOW

Year 2 (Miss Hunt) - GREEN

Year 3 (Miss Forster) - PURPLE

Year 3/4 (Miss Riley) - ORANGE

Year 4 (Mrs Robinson) - RED

Year 5 (Mr Cowie & Mr Cartwright) - BLUE

Year 6 (Mr Martin) - BLACK

 

Children can simply wear a singular item of clothing in their colour or come to school head to toe in their colour. You can be as creative as you like but please note there is no expectation for parents to spend money on creating an outfit for this event.

 

• Creative Activities: Throughout the day, your child will participate in fun activities related to the book. They may get the chance to create their own "letter from a crayon" or even design their own colourful crayon character. The opportunities are endless!

 

This celebration is not only about promoting the love of reading but also about encouraging our students to express themselves creatively, just like the crayons in the story. We hope that your child enjoys this special day and gets inspired to keep reading and creating!
