We have enjoyed lots of activities today to raise money for Sport Relief! We have bought special wrist bands and are wearing our sports clothes to show our support.

Phonics Stay and Play Session

We are very excited about our new lunch time clubs. Our amazing teaching assistants have chosen children to participate in fun clubs on a lunch time. We have been learning to play board games, practising our cutting skills and enjoying colouring.

This term we will be finding out about the travels and challenges of famous explorers. We will be finding out about life in the North Pole.

We have had a busy start to the new term. We have been learning to tell the time and exploring materials. In english we have been reading Polar bear, polar bear. We then wrote our own version of this story.

Week ending 10th November
Well what a busy 2 weeks we have had since returning back after our half term break.
We've made made pumpkin soup, had our Halloween disco and been to Beamish Open Air Museum.
I would like to take this opportunity to say how proud I was of all our children on our visit to Beamish, they were a credit to you and fabulous ambassadors for our school. Several members of the public commented on how well the children behaved.

What a busy half term! 1R have worked so hard learning and playing. I'm sure the children are ready for a good rest during half term. I'm looking forward to next half term when we will be preparing for our class assembly and Christmas production.

19th October. The children had a fantastic day learning about the Hindu Festival of Diwali. They listened to and read the story of Rama and Sita, they made puppets and lanterns. They also learned a song to perform in assembly in front of the whole school. I was so proud of them.

Week ending 13th October.
Another busy week in 1R, as you can see! Lots of learning and lots of fun! In English we have written stories, practiced spellings and handwriting and read our books. We have been counting in 2's in maths as well as ordering and sequencing numbers. In science we are learning about the sense of smell and smelled lots of strange things. In art we have been creating portraits in the style of Picasso.
The winners in our reader's raffle this week were, Lexie T, Alfie and Lily - well done.
Our Stars of the Week this week were Riley R and Liam, well done boys.

The children have worked so hard this week. In history they have learned about the famous local men who have inspired the names of our house teams and have produced work for a class display.
In English they have thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea'. More fabulous work followed for another display. Photographs next week.

The children really enjoyed their judo taster session on Wednesday morning.
Year 1R have had a really busy week. We have been writing our own stories based on Funnybones. We have been learning about where we live and where Shotton is on the map. We have also done lots of number work.
Yesterday we had a fun day celebrating National Poetry Day. We read lots of poems, made up our own poem and learned a poem to perform, with lots of actions.

In Year 1R we have had a fantastic week! We have written some wonderful sentences based on ‘Funnybones’, in maths we’ve been counting to forwards and backwards from different numbers and have produced some fabulous portraits in art.
I'm so proud of the children who received attendance certificates today; Bradley, Phoebe, Lexie T, Kayden D and Aiden.

Welcome to Year 1, the children have all had a wonderful start and are quickly learning to follow new routines and are working really hard. We have had lots of happy faces and are really proud. We have all agreed and signed our class charter.

Eco Rangers - Luke and Lexi have volunteered their services as our Eco Rangers for the year.
We were really excited to be given our key task to "Become a tour guide for Shotton". We have discussed what we know about Shotton and where we live. This week we talked about what we could see out of our bedroom windows to compare our environment.
