Curriculum Statement: Physical Education

All of our children across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 have a comprehensive PE curriculum.

PE has a significant part to play in terms of being able to offer all pupils, including those with SEN a broad and balanced curriculum. 

Within PE opportunities provided for our children, we treat each other with honesty, fairness and compassion, through effective communication and the development of personal and social skills - self-confidence, achievement and success, positive relationships, support and coping skills.

Shotton Primary School is a happy, safe environment for all children and staff, where everyone is respected and valued. 

Through PE and active involvement opportunities: 

•  We will provide a variety of rich and engaging experiences beyond the classroom, including accessing opportunities through the Peterlee Sports Partnership.   

• We will educate our children to help them to become responsible citizens, responsible for their own health. 

• We will teach the children the knowledge and skills required to have an active lifestyle and understand the importance of being active, alongside a healthy diet and adopting a healthy lifestyle.   

• We will value and promote respect of a range of cultures that reflects the diversity of modern Britain, teaching our children the importance of equality of opportunity.  

We will aim for all pupils to develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities, be physically active for sustained periods of time, engage in competitive sports and activities and lead healthy, active lives.
