Shotton Primary
and Nursery School
At Shotton Primary School, all children develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
Our Science Curriculum is broad and balanced, following the statutory guidance from the National Curriculum. It develops children’s progressive knowledge and skills across the curriculum and develops their understanding of their health and well-being to prepare them for the future.
We will teach scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding in a variety of rich and engaging experiences within and beyond the classroom, including accessing local resources to enhance pupils’ learning further.
We will raise children’s awareness of how Science has changed our lives so that they know about prominent scientists through history. Children should know that Science is vital to the world’s prosperity, development and health. We want to raise their awareness of employment and further educational opportunities within Science.
By learning today for a successful tomorrow, our children will be able to communicate- cognitively, socially and linguistically, for practical purposes in the wider world. We will seek to provide a positive foundation for further learning of Science beyond KS2.
It is of vital importance that we provide rich and engaging learning experiences to foster their curiosity, develop a sense of excitement and deepen their understanding of the world.
