Nursery Visit to the Park!
This week it was nursery's trips to the park. Despite the very wet weather the children had lots of fun spending time with family and friends!
My dad is special because...
Maths GameThe children have really enjoyed feeding the bear the correct number of cakes. This is a really fun game to help your children to learn to count and recognise numbers. Why not try this game at home too!
During our 2 days staff training Miss Donoghue shared her forest school training with the rest of the early years team. We had lots of fun building shelters, making fires, using tools and playing woodland games. We can't wait to share these with you after the holidays.
"It's snowing" said Harvey pointing out of the window.
We explained it was blossom falling off the tree. The children were very excited and wanted to go outside to see it. We all went out into the quad and danced under the blossom to Let it Go. It was a lovely end to the day!
Woodland Time - This week during woodland time the children have been busy exploring the new flowers in the woods and becoming more independent. The children particularly liked the cowslip flowers and playing sticky jack chase. One of the children even spotted a fairy down in the woods so next week we will be exploring our woods further to see if we can find any signs of fairies. It would be wonderful if you could talk about some of the other flowers you and your child can find.
Today the children have practised putting their waterproofs on independently and help collect branches and long sticks ready for our wood work activities in the woods. We started to look at the different roles children could help with during woodland time, with Bradley organising snack for everyone today. The children worked very well together, helping each other with some very large branches. You might want to talk with your child this week about their woodland time and what they did.
Forest Schools - This week we have spent lots of time in our woodlands. Miss Donoghue is completing her Forest School Training and the children have been very helpful and have been helping her with her learning. The children have been learning about using fallen branches, stuck in trees, for fires as it is dry and burns better. They enjoyed snapping sticks ready to put on the fire. Some of the children have also been identifying the flora in our woodlands area using the leaf and twig identification cards.
Jay the Animal Man!
The boys and girls have been amazingly brave and enthusiastic when meeting the animals today! As you can imagine we have hundreds of photos from today so these will be on view during your stay and play session. We look forward to seeing you there!
Happy Mother's Day!
We have recorded some special messages for our mums this week and for special people in our families.
Some of the children felt a little shy recording their messages but told us their mummies were very special too!
World Book Day!
The children really enjoyed sharing books and dressing up as part of our world book day celebrations. We also had some amazing reading news on world book day, Imogen and Joe got their first home reading book today!
Car Crazy - The children in nursery were particularly interested in cars so we set up our new room to extend their learning through this popular theme!
Exploring moving in different ways on the trim trail...
Mobilo Fun Continues!
During the bees group time one of the boys shared with the other children that animals die and go to heaven. The children then began to share with each other their own experiences of animals and special people in their family who have died and gone to heaven. They also said that it made them feel sad. We spent some time talking about different beliefs and heaven. Then Miss Donoghue shared with the boys and girls that when she was a little girl and someone she loved went to heaven she used to make balloon messages and pictures to send to that special person in heaven. Several boys and girls wanted to do this for their special person or animal, some of which were in heaven. The children thought very carefully about the colours of their balloon and the colour of the paper they used to make their pictures and messages, so their special person would like it. Boys and girls I am sure the special people and animals you made your messages for would have loved your balloon messages!
Some of our children have been talking about decorating and moving home based on their own experiences. In addition the adults at Nursery have also noticed that the children have been making their own beds using the sofa cushions so we decided we might need a new home role play area. The children wrote lists of all the things they wanted in their new house and then began to pack. The children then helped to move everything from the old house over to their new home. Well done boys and girls you worked well together to move home and deserved your biscuit break after all that heavy lifting!
This week we have used the children's' interest in Mobilo to help us with our maths learning. The boys have been particularly interested in this with several boys returning to this area daily. Remember to look at our website next week to see other ways our Mobilo has supported our learning.
The Three Little Pigs
The children have really enjoyed the story of the three little pigs this week. They have acted out the story and after Mason showed us his mask he had made at home lots of the children decided to make their own masks. Some of the children have even made their own story books to take home whilst others made their own three pig houses. We really enjoyed watching the story spinner version of this story, Zach said Phil was so funny! We also found out that one of our little boys, William lives on a pig farm so next week we are going to learn about pigs and ask William to help us with this.
We love sharing stories in our nursery and this week we have made story boxes to cosy-up in when looking at and reading our favourite books!

The children have particularly enjoyed playing in the castle small world area this week. They have been learning how to play in a larger group and share the characters. Well done boys and girls!

If you would like to support your child's learning at home please check the homework trays each week for all the latest activities to do at home. Hardwick Park Visit - Take Two! The children had an amazing time on Friday when they took part in The Gruffalo Workshop at Hardwick Park. They took part in The Gruffalo Trail, then made clay mice. We then had lunch as we were all very hungry, before playing in the play park and then making our Gruffalo mask. Finally we went to visit the castle and the play park befor coming home. Well done boys and girls you worked very hard today and listened very well.
14th October- Woodland Time!
We have now started our woodland time in nursery. This week we have started to go to the woodlands in small groups to begin to talk about our stop points, and how they keep us safe when we are in the woodlands. We also began to play our recall game so the children could find the fastest way back to base camp, once they heard our call back noise. We finished our sessions today playing hide and seek, to help us to learn to recite numbers in order.
At home it would be wonderful if you could ask your child to talk about their time in the woodlands, the games they played and discuss stop points and the recall noise for base camp. It would also be wonderful if you could record any of their memories from woodland time on the WOW moments and give these to your child's key worker.
Nursery had an amazing time at Hardwick Park on their visit this week! We took part in The Gruffalo Workshop and had lots of fun finding out about this story. We listened to the story before heading into the woodland park to make clay mice and find other characters from the story. After lunch it was time for the children to make their very own Gruffalo mask to bring home with them. The children behaved so well throughout the visit and really enjoyed their day. Well done boys and girls we are so proud of you!!
We had fun exploring puddles in the woodlands.

Please remember on Wednesday 23rd September we will have a special visit from Mr Prickles, the hedgehog. This will be a very exciting day for the children to meet a real hedgehog! Also, on Wednesday following Mr Prickles visit to nursery we will have our first woodlands session. Please make sure your child is dressed warmly and have their welly boots on this day.
We have also been learning how to orally blend this week using Fred the dinosaur. The children fed Fred lots of his favourite foods by using their fantastic listening ears to work out what he wanted to eat!
