Mrs Henson/Mrs Chaytor

Since our topic this term is 'Wacky Races' we have learned all about the space race!  Who was the first country to reach the moon - USSR or the USA?  What was the name of the first man on the moon? These are just a few of the fun things we have been learning about.  We have written some fabulous story settings that describe outer space and have used some exciting vocabulary in our work.

This half term we are reading 'Flat Stanley'.  There are some really funny events and characters in this chapter book.  We thought the part where mum and dad posted Stanley in an envelope to California was hilarious. We have been doing lots of writing about the story and have even pretended to be Stanley and write a diary entry.  We wonder what he's going to get up to next.

In RE we are learning all about the first Buddha and the story of Prince Siddhartha.  We used the intricate symbol of Buddhism in our art work. We traced over the complicated pattern ever so carefully and then used a range of colours to make a stained-glass symbol of Buddhism.

Do you know how to stay safe?  We do!  We have been talking about keeping safe around people that we don't know, whether it is when we are outside our homes and school or when using the internet.  We have thought carefully about safe strangers and know which people it is safe to talk to and ask for help when outside our homes and school.

Shildon Railway Museum

Wednesday 2nd May

What a super day we all had! I was exceptionally proud of our children's behaviour and enthusiasm whilst visiting the museum.  The children were very eager to share their learning about George Stephenson and his inventions.  They particularly enjoyed recreating the first passenger train ride from Stockton to Darlington. Have they shared their experiences with you too?  Take a look at some of our memories from the day.

Our Topic this term is 'Wacky Races'. We will be learning all about the history of transport and in particular the history of the railways.  We will learn about significant figures during this period of history and why they are so important. During the month of May, Year 2 will also complete SATs for reading and mathematics.
